Has anyone done one?

My background, I have a medical degree + year of hospital experience. However I setup a couple of businesses while I was in medical school and did quite well at one point in time with 20+ staff.

I don’t think I want to spend my life working in a hospital, ideally I would like to setup my own business again if I can find something to do or get a job that utilizes my medical and business background.

So will a MBA actually open any new doors for me or would I just be wasting my time?

Given the chance I would leave the uk again but my wife is a training to be a GP so it may not be easy to move, USA or back to Czech Republic are high up on my list.

If you are going to be self employed, then an MBA may give you a better understanding of how to run a business.
If on the otherhand you want to work for a company, an MBA is a big bonus and will open doors that would otherwise be closed.
My sister (who is now in her late 40's) has an MBA and actually runs the company she works for on a day to day basis. Lots of companys run this way, the owners get the business but leave everything else to the company secretary. Without an MBA she would not have been given the job.

This is the thing, ideally I would like to stay self employed and I have experience running a small business but only in a micro economy like Czech Republic. I do not really know anything about how to run a business properly and thought a MBA may be helpful.

Of if I go into employment it may help me get a better job for example in a Pharma company.

My mate did something medicine related. He now has his own business selling equipment to the NHS/nurses. Makes a fortune he says.

He imports specialist items/equipment for people with disabilities or something.

For Pharma you need to be with one of the big boys. No one will touch you as a standalone small business venture. You now this already, I'm sure.

No sorry was I was saying was that if I dont manage to setup a small business I could go and get a normal job working for a pharma company

It depends on where you go. Some of the more prestigious MBAs are there for your CV and can cost a fortune - places like Wharton for example.

There are plenty of good business schools around that'll give you the know-how to run your own business without costing £30,000+

I'd certainly recommend doing one for yourself, and I think it highly unlikely that you'll either regret it or it won't come in handy at some point.

My brother with an MBA, says will you won't learn anything you couldn't learn yourself(He says its not that hard). However it is proof that you know your stuff, thus business are more likely to choose you over another candidate.

If your small entrepreneurial business type who likes growing companies you don't really need an MBA, although handy to have just incase you have some missed some essential knowledge. The majority of people I know(I.e One person) who are multi-millionaires from running small business never even touched an MBA.
