Is it worth getting fast hard drives for externals?

I am looking at getting some new hard drives for my external enclosures and I was just wondering, is it worth getting fast hard drives (i.e. WD Black) for use with USB enclosures or would the USB be a bottleneck?

USB would bottleneck you. I'd only use fast drives if the enclosure had eSATA

Thanks, I thought as much. As I will be using this with a Mac, I might have to look at Firewire.
