Hi all,

Is it worth getting one of those electric car buffers/polishers? I have been doing it manually but want something a little easier and if it gives better results then great, is it worth getting one of these?

Also what type of treatments or bundles do you get with them usually and are they any good or would it be best to split (IE get the electric buffer for when its needed and then go for aftermarket waxes/polishes/clays etc)

Sorry if I am going in the wrong direction, never looked in to these before

It depends on what you mean by electric buffer

if you mean a £15 effort from Halfords with no real guts then no, don't waste your money.

If you mean something like a DAS6 (so think £80-200 for the machine) then yes, but you need the right products for your car and a lot of time to do it otherwise the results will be unspectacular.

Places like cleanyourcar will do kits with the machine and some pads / product that can be decent value.

I've got a Silverline Silver Storm rotary polisher which i've had for around 2-3 years now. It's a great bit of kit and only costs around £45. The only downside to it is that it is on the heavy side, but nothing unmanageable at all.

I wouldn't spend £200+ on a machine polisher unless I had a business or was very very enthusiastic about detailing.

Neither would I for the machine itself, but some of the kits with several pads and compound work out not bad value (I think I only paid £60 for my DA, but i've since spent at least that again on actual stuff for it / to use with it).

I wouldn't mind a rotary to be fair, though I'd be wary of using it on the Civics' shocking paint. On something like a BMW though they're about the only thing that'll cut through without loads of passes

How do you find yours on the civic? What colour is it?

My civic is bronze pearl - it comes up well with meg's 205 (I'm too scared to use 105 on it as the paint is so horrible and thin) and a DA.

The front end is absolutely infuriating looking close up with chips / rash though. That said I don't think I'll actually get it sprayed as every single one I've ever seen done just looks crap again after 12 months

Cheers for info all, will have a look at some of the suggestions, I don't want to damage or run high risk of error and chipping or damaging paintwork, its not something iv used before
