Is it worth having my laptop fold?

Hey guys. Just lately my laptop is on pretty much most of the day because for the time being it is being used by my parents since their laptop died a horrible death.

It's a Toshiba Satellite and has 512MB RAM and a 1.6GHz Dothan. Any good for folding? :D

If Dothan=Pentium M the yes it is. Apparently Pentium Ms are one of the best chips to fold with

Off topic but is Dothan a name of a dinosaur? :p

I would be careful to keep an eye on the temperature of the laptop when you get it folding. Some of the lighter more portable laptops don't have the best cooling. If its more of a desktop replacement or office type laptop it should be OK though. Basically, some of the smaller laptops are designed for less intensive processing, you don't want to cook it by running it continuously if its not designed for it.

I've got a Fujitsu Siemens laptop with a 1.7Ghz Pentium M and I'm getting 100ppd with 1809's and over 230ppd with 2409 600 point projects, so if its up to it, its definately worth crunching on it.

You can get some damn good ppd from a 1.6 Dothan - my Asus laptop is a 1.6 Dothan and it just loves 364 pointers (over 500 ppd - by far my best ppd from any rig so far), shame their very rarely available :(

Not so hot on other WUs but well worth running.

As mentioned, just keep an eye on the temps as they can get a little warm (never had any problems with mine but it does get quite toasty - I wouldn't want it on my lap :p ).

Unfortunately I can't fold on my laptop for two reasons:

1: Because of the proprietary Toshiba mobo I can't get any kind of CPU or chipset temperatures. A slight concern if I were to punish the laptop with F@H

2: Windows hangs at the login screen!

Oh well, looks like I will have to find another computer to borg :(
