Is it worth it doing overtime?

I'm sat here doing overtime atm, luckily I read the entire thread, almost through down my keyboard and stormed out in disgust :D

You're familiar with the principles of taxation though, if not arithmetic?

it is interesting how some people will blindly accept whatever some mathematical model (in this case barely even one but rather a very simple tax calculator) tells them... common sense goes out the window sometimes.

Confuzzled. Is it worth it? Yes. I wish I could still do overtime at work. Amazing we have a shortage of developers, lots of work, yet due to government constraints find it very difficult to get overtime. It's actually easier to hire a contractor (nuts).

I get paid sweet **** all for overtime, yet I'm usually in the office from half 8 to 7-8 o'clock every night.

So yes, if you can get it, take it.

I've always tried to reduce my hours not increase them. :p

Other section manager - Hey Malc I hear you are really good on Produce.

Me - I like to think so. :D

Manager - Would you do me a favour & do some over time for me ?

Me - :p:p:p:p:p

Manager - walks off.

Me - :D

It depends whether or not you value your spare time or prefer to earn, that is of course depending if you get paid extra for it

My overtime allowances are pretty good so I can put a few hours in when I feel like it such as when I want an expensive toy or to pay for a holiday

We are only allowed to do 12 overtime shifts per year. But at 250 quid after tax per shift it's hard to say no :-)

Well worth me doing overtime. This thread is rather pointless now the OP has realised he'd got it woefully wrong in the old numbers department though.

If you get paid a reasonable amount for the day, I'm not sure how anyone can say it's not worth it.

Is it common for employers to just match your pension contribution? Mine pays double my contribution. Im now paying 4% and they add another 8%. I thought this was standard?
