Is it worth it? X850XT to X1800XT?

I've just ordered an X1800XT and im going from an AGP X800XTPE so pretty similar to your X850XT. In my case it will be worth it as im running a Belinea 102035W at 1680 x 1050 and the X800 doesnt cope all that well with some games at that resolution.

if you want to run in hi-res with AA/AF cranked up then yes, the X1800 will majorly improve your frame rate.

You will also add more powerful HDR performance, and SM3.0 with AA, Its a great card and for the money its at untill 2pm today, even more so. :)

I'd say yes, but it depends what monitor you are using.

I run a 22" CRT and want to game in 1600 x 1200 whenever possible, so an X1800XT is crying out to be purchased with my poor overused credit card! :D

Especially @ £281 inc VAT  (This week only)

haha,

I just upgraded from an AGP Radeon 9800Pro to a PCI-Express Radeon X850XT :)

A far more sensible idea than blowing the equivalent of a weekend break in Rome for you and the lady (£100 two return flights, £100 two nights B&B in city centre, £100 pizza and ice-cream for example) on a graphics card that run at 1600x1200 where previously you could only run at 1280x1024. I don't think people actually think outside the box and think what can be done with the money - when you think about all the things you can do with £300 compared with an extra 20fps or a higher resolution it seems a bit daft.

But i get real enjoyment out of gaming. I'll run my card for over 3000 hrs i doubt i'd get 3000hrs out of the missus even if i took her to rome.
I was out this weekend and i spent £120 in one night. At the end of it i had a hangover and blurry memories of naked ladies dancing. Now i'd much rather i'd spent that on the X1800xt as i've had to use the CC to buy it. At least i end up with something to show for it.

does the move from AGP to PCI-e give any performance boost if it were the same card ???
Hi Paulus (you old devil!),

well while I have never owned the same card on both AGP/PCI-Express, everythig I read seems to tell me that a native PCI-Express solution has the *edge* over a card that uses a bridge chip.

Either that or the manufacturers are clocking down their AGP parts to make PCI-Express even more desirable.

X850XT on PCI-Express is a stormer though, funny to think I paid the same money for a Radeon 9600XT about two years ago :p

Note: I was reeeaaallly close to buying an AGP X850XT for £300 in March 2005, so I can't help feeling that approx £150 for a PCI-Express X850XT is a steal. . .

Don't assume that they don't have the money to do both, or that someone doesn't have a "lady" who would rather stay home and frag at 1600x1200 than go to Rome "again" :)

On topic, I'd say if you can afford it its worth it, there would be a definite improvement in performance, especially considering you could part compensate the outlay on the new card by selling the old card.
