Trying to figure out if I should get a laptop or not.

I have started doing odd jobs on the side for a little extra ££ and experience.

I was at a womans house the other day trying to fix her wireless, problem was the PC was upstairs and the router was down stairs, after trying loads of different codes she had written down on paper I eventually found the correct network pass code/password/whatever.

But I thought to my self "If only I had a laptop I could plug in the Ethernet cable and just look at the code"

Has anyone else done odd jobs them selves and found a laptop useful in the process?

Also can you think of any other uses it might have "in the field"?

done i couple of odd jobs where my laptop came in handy

realy it depends on how much work your getting and can you Justify the price of a cheap laptop/netbook rather than a couple of trips up and down stairs

I can get an out of warranty one at work for £30 so its not that much of an outlay :)

Do you mind me asking what the jobs were where it came in useful?

Now I read back it isn't very clear lol

Should I get one and actively take it around with me when I go out to do the odd jobs?

I am just trying to find scenarios where it would be handy to have a laptop there with me.

I'd just get one tbh, like you said you could have done with one at that time, theres going to be another time where you could have used a laptop and you'll be back to this again thinking should i get one :P
