Hi im new to pc's and this forum (see my introduction thread)

Im building a gaming rig which will be playing games such as cod, battlefield, the new gta, crysis 3 etc the problem i have is what card to buy!

A quick look i can get a secondhand gtx 690 for my budget or is it worth buying say a new lower spec card in safety of history? i will be playing
@1080p until i can upgrade my monitor next year but i can build the rig in the next few months. Tbh im not intersested in sli as im new to pc's so a single kick ass card is what im looking at.

Any help appreciated thanks for your time

A few people have said the new 770 is brilliant and around 100 pound less on my budget the 760 has only just come out hasn't it? Is it the 660 replacement? I ask coz custom pc had a gpu test and the 770 is actually the 680 replacement they say

Confusing lol

Cheers guys for the help most appreciated, i will be asking for allsorts of help with things like psu and cooling etc so its nice getting positive response especially as im new and the advice your giving me is basic stuff.

Tbh my whole budget is around £1300 for my rig, I'm new so a lil stuck as to what sort of spec I need. like i said i play a lot of different game types fps, RPGs, car racing and even sim city so a card that can handle them even when I upgrade my monitor next year.

I look at a lot of shop builds an a lot have water cooling do I need that? I5 or I7? Power supply? Lol there is a lot to choose from ESP at the money I have to play with please help if you guys can spec a whole rig that would be great!

Sorry for the long winded reply but I want the best bang for my buck so to speak

I want to try an keep it simple with a single gpu that's why I suggested a second hand one anybody sell stuff like that I have seen on a popular auction site them going for 400-500 only problem is are they trustworthy

Im confused lol i have spent a few days planning stuff but im not sure what direction to go in.

I can afford a 780 at a push or a secondhand 690, or say a new 770/7970 and buy a second card next year i know i said keep it simple but i do tend to jump in and learn as i go. The system would be air cooled with summit beefy like a k2 and extra case fans till i gain experiance with a water loop next year with the new monitor.

With the fore mentioned cards in mind whats a decent case for 150 pounds with watercooling potential later? Im thinking an nzxt switch or the new corsair 540? cube thingy lol. Im not time wasting just taking my time and making sure i get it right because i have saved up for ages : )
