Ok bit of advice needed please. I have decided i want a 1440p monitor so....

current pc is a
GBYTE GA-X58A UD3R
[email protected]
1x2gb twin frozr 6950
6gb ram
750 watt corsair psu

This complete pc will be passed on to my boy for gaming middle of next year(he always gets my cast offs and the current cast off is really slow now).So anything in it will not be going to my new one.

What i want is a gpu that will run the 1440 monitor at decent settings. I know i wont be maxing anything, thats fine as the monitor will last 6 years or so and this pc will only be running it for 6-8 months. I am trying to split next years upgrade so my bank account doesnt feel overly raped.

As the pc will be used for a few years after im done with it I dont mind chucking a 7990 in it if its worth it (Would rather I paid for a 7950 but will go to the 7990 if I have to).As long as it will not bottleneck to badly etc and will do a decent job on the 1440 for me in the meantime.

I did look at crossfire. I opened my case looked at the size of the 6950 and the fact i have a soundcard card in a slot and thought thats really tight,No way i'll be getting 2 7950's in there!

So just grab a 7950 and oc it and live with it until i do a full upgrade? or go nuts with a 7990?

Cheers for any advice!

Ok,thanks guys 7990 ordered.Decided to buy the card while its a bargain and shop over the next few months for the 1440 monitor. Bit underwhelmed by the choice there really.

One last question tho

My psu has 2x6+2 pcie connectors and the 7990 needs 2x8 .I take it i am good with the spare 2 dangling next to the 6 to make the 6 an 8?
