Is it worth me upgrading my memory at all

Is it worth me upgrading 6400 to 8500

Hi guys,

I am currently using 4 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 4-4-4-12 6400 memory and was just wondering would it be worth purchasing some DDR2 8500 memory.

Or

Is it just not worth it and I should wait for DDR3 to drop in price (granted I would need a new motherboard).



I would also like to overclock the memory and get a little more juice out of it

I presume it is running 1:1 with your Q6600? What is your processor running at (multiplier and FSB). 400x8?

Generally, buying faster memory isn't worth it. You are not going to get any advantage at running the memory faster than your FSB speed, and you are going to see a minimal advantage if you buy memory with faster timings. Only buy memory upgrades when you need more space, not when you want more speed.
