Hi guys,

My oc on my I7 is stable at 3.8ghz although temps when priming where slightly on the high side.

I was thinking of upgrading my HSF (from Sycthe Shuriken) and getting a Thermalright Silverarrow

I know it would enable me to hit 4ghz + and be a lot cooler...

However do you think its worth paying £50 to get another 300 - 400mhz at lower temps?

Your thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

If it's just for a gain of a few hundred MHz, then, personally, no i don't think it's worth the expense as you wont notice the difference that 300Mhz will give you in day to day usage.

However, if the Sycthe Shuriken is relatively noisy at keeping things stable at 3.8Ghz - then, personally, i think that the £50 would then be money well spent. As the Silver Arrow will keep your present clock stable (perhaps more) and at lower decibels.

If it's for the combination of stability with realtive silence - then these are the reasons i would buy the SA (Infact it is why i have - i'm getting one next week.)

The shuriken is a low profile cooler with only 3 heatpipes so would imagine you'd see quite an improvement. However unless noise or heat is a big issue then the extra few MHz is not worth £50. Have you swapped out the thin fan for a good 25mm deep fan?

Still you should get a buyer for your existing cooler because it's useful for htpc or small case use.
