Is it worth Overclocking?

I just went to try 20% now, and it told me overclocking failed. So I switched it to 15% and its running fine. I think its at 2.85(?) GHz, and I didn't test temps when under stress atm.
BSOD = Blue Screen of Death yes? Well, all seems to be fine for now :P

And yeh, FSB is greyed out in by BIOS. Is there a way I can select it? (un-grey it).
 
I played BF:BC2 (probs the best game I have, specs wise) for around 20 minutes, I finished to first level on Hard, and the temps seem really good. Maximim has been 55 and 51 (game running at full spec bar AA, which was set at x1). CPU (according to CPU-Z) was running at 28713MHz, which is 2.87GHz, which is a good .76GHz overall. 3GHz could be the optimal :P

I seem to like it like this, but hopefully, I can unlock the FSB and put it up to somewhere higher.

Also, what about the GPU :P Worth OC'ing? :P

Unfortunately it seems you're being severely held back by the poor overclocking options with your cheapy cheap board :p As for temps, you'll be fine, you're not overvolting the CPU so high temps won't be an issue.

It wasn't a gaming build :P Tbh, a guy with the same mobo-CPU config went up to 3.3 (in this thread) so don't know why mine is an issue :S Also, I still don't know why the FSB is greyed out :/ Should I post the full CPU settings in the BIOS so maybe it will help? Really want to try and get 3GHz :P
 
Well, I went to check out more stuff, I found a 'MANUAL' choice instead of an overclocking profile, so now I can input my value.

It was set at 200, and without doing the maths I smashed a 250 in there, and the system failed to load. I cranked it down to 240, and once again it didn't load, but it did at 235. I loaded up Fm2011 AND AC:Brotherhood at once, and it kind of went crazy, AC:B was forced to close (cause I tried to minimize it to see CPU speed). When I tried to shut down, I think I got a BSOD, and it told me it shut down to prevent damage to my system.

Restarted and tried to crank it up to 236 (237 didn't work for me) and when starting up I got another BSOD. Not sure when as I went to grab something to drink.

I'm now running at 234. Am going to switch off system (to see that i don't get a BSOD when I turn off like when I tried on 235) and if it shuts down ok, I can assume that I OC'ed to the max yes?

The way to test stability is use prime95. If it survives a few hours of that you know you've got a stable overclock.

Well, I'm under 3 :P

Got another BSOD whilst playing BF:BC2 :( Lowered from 234 to 233. 15% increase was at 230, and 230 was stable (played and got no BSOD). Stable is somewhere between 230 and 233.

I'm running Prime95 atm, but does it have to take hours? And tbh, I don't know what I am seeing :p Just a bunch of numbers for me :p I'm going to shower, I'll post results when I come back and hopefully somebody will explain :P

You don't need to sit watching prime. Set it going then leave it for a couple of hours. If it's still running when you get back with no errors then you are doing ok. You don't need to post screenshots of it :p

Check your RAM is still at it's lowest speed, as that could be holding you back. There's also a setting to raise the northbridge voltage which helped get mine stable. Can't remember what it's called though.

Does it have to sit there alone? My sister started using fb when I was showering -.- FML. Worker 1 stopped running, worker 2 still strong.

Still assume thats a fail though :P

Ram is at like 667MHz, which is lowest. on CPU-Z it says 388.5MHz, maybe cause I have 2 sticks of RAM.

I will look around for some northbridge value, but have no idea where to look :P
 
The good thing about prime is it will use whatever processing power is available. You can run whatever else you want at the same time and it will keep your CPU usage pegged at 100%.

One worker stopping does count as fail I'm afraid :p

Did it hit you what the 'Northbridge Voltage' is :P And what best number to put in :p

Also just sent you an e-mail (via trust) with msn/skype details, as i feel im posting WAAY too much.
