The first Elder Scrolls game I played was Skyrim and loved it to death, just wondering is it worth playing Oblivion, or is it not as good and would it be a bit 'samey' to enjoy and be turning Skyrim back on!?

It's slightly outdated graphically (although outclasses Skyrim with the right mods), and the gameplay is somewhat outdated but the content and the world is a million times better.

One word (well three): Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (OOOOOOOhhhhh)

Do it!

Go for it, it's one of the best game i've ever played! The amount of detail they put into the quests and characters is amazing, just a shame that the main story line is so short though there are like a million side quests and dungeons to complete.

Just be careful with modding, you might spend more time modding it that actually playing the game.

yes!

Awesome game, oblivion planes can get a bit tiresome but there is so much to do you can get hours and hours out of it without even touching the main story line.

As above, get OOO and some of the more popular mods. My Oblivion setup is archived on a backup drive as it took me a few days to get everything working together!

I actually prefer an overhauled Morrowind to Oblivion.

Hell yeah!

I put 320 hours into one save on Oblivion, I just got lost in the world.

Skyrim was awesome too, but I only put about 40 hours into it, don't know why but it just didn't grab me the same :(

I must voice the opposition here, I hated Oblivion...
I feel Skyrim is what Oblivion should have been! Gamplay-wise at least. The main story and the law are actually ok and are a good setup for Skyrim.

I would always recommend everyone, who doesn't mind older games, to go back to Morrowind. That has all the atmosphere, gamestyle and lore that made me fall in love with TES. Oblivion paled in comparison...
It can even be passable graphically with mods if it really bothers you lol.

Skyrim has brought it all back for me now though, and restored my faith in the series :)

Yes, I am in the middle of my game now, about 150 hours in. Get the full FCOM configuration with the realistic levelling mod, deadly reflex, supreme magicka and reneer's guard overhaul for certain alongside any others you fancy. I have basically overhauled the whole game including lots of new quests and added a new province of Elsywr and it is my favourite single player gaming experience I can remember.

I am yet to play Morrowind or Skyrim but I will play Morrowind after as the new gameplay mod compilation should be finished by then.

I must have sunk atleast 300hrs into oblivion, and i would still go back to it now. i thought it was an amazing game. i couldn't get in to morrowind at all. played about 30 mins and never touched it again. skyrim was alright, but still has nothing on oblivion imo.

Sorry you didn't like Morrowind, pudding. :(

...And sorry you didn't like Skyrim either, pie. :(

Oblivion is excellent, even without mods. Definitely give it a go.

It is not in Skyrim's league, but it is definitely a great game. If you loved Skyrim I imagine you would love this also.
