I bought it in a Steam sale ages ago for like £3.49 or something but never played it (similar to how i have about a dozen games on Steam that i haven't played). I was just wondering if it's worth it or pretty pointless 'cause The Witcher 2s out and probably loads better, graphically and everything.

Yes, I'd say it's definitely worth it. Rpg's aren't my favourite genre, though I seem to be playing them more and more these days, and I would rate this game as one of the best available in that department. I still think the graphics hold up fairly well, all considered, especially when you factor in it being five years old.

I hated it, really hated it. Combat was terrible and didn't enjoy it, witcher 2 on the other hand is amazing.

I didn't find the combat particularly enthralling, but the story and characters were good. I'd say it's definitely worth playing for the price you picked it up for. At the very least, you can try it and then just move on to The Witcher 2 if you don't gel with the combat and the dated technical aspects of the game.

Witcher 1 is by far the best out of the two. Not only is it longer and has a better story, you also feel real bad ass in it. My favorite game so far. You can get some nice texture mods for it as well to make it look better. It does have one boring chapter that is quite long, but get past that and you will find a classic game.

So many mixed opinions, I say just give it a try you already have a copy of the game so you are not loosing anything but time.

I enjoyed the first far more than the second.

Much longer story too and it was great.

I preferred the first one than the second one. It concentrated more on graphics and had annoying things like not being able to drink potions when not meditating.

Loved both games, but agree with above.
Definitely play it. It can be tough going at the start, but there's so much to see and do in the game.

I'd highly recommend playing the first one as well - as mentioned previously the story is great, and the length feels just right. The atmosphere in the game is incredible as well and you can really tell they put a lot of effort into it.

The first game is astonishingly good imo. With the exception of a couple of niggles, such as the 'collectable cards', it feels like an adult game for adults.

I guess i'll give it a go then. :)

I'm gonna try out Team Fortress 2 first though, also a game that i've had for ages and never played.

Yup, 1st was better than the 2nd. Story was better, quests were more interesting, inventory was better and you didn't have to meditate to take potions.

I also really liked the cards, not sure why some people didn't. I would have liked to be able to browse them once I'd collected them...

It is definitely worth playing. I thought it was much better than the second one. Just stick with it as it does start slowly.

I tried, I really did. But no cigar.

I was the same, it took me 6 months to play through the first 2 chapters, then when it got good, I finished the rest in a few days.
