Is it worth replacing a 1090t?

Well i've had my build for less than a year but it has been pretty much inadequate since the beginning, if i'm being brutally honest with myself.

It struggles to run my favourites on high/ultra, which is a PITA. In retrospect i should have gone with an i5, but nevertheless...

I'm a bit out of the loop processor wise. Is there anything I can slot into the place of my 1090t that will significantly increase performance in FSX, Red Orchestra 2, pCars, and other games?

I've been running the 1090t overclocked to 3.8ghz but it's not up to the job of gaming, though it is absolutely fantastic with video editing tasks...
 
tbh its your card more than the cpu

the cpu will still run most things at more than adequate

what res do you game at ?
 
Are you on 6850?

Because if so i agree with other guy you need to replace this with something better like 7850, which would give you twice the power :)
 
Yeah I would probably agree with above that it is more gpu than cpu. I run a 1055, so a lower model cpu and I can run pretty much any game on max with the 7950 I'm using.

I had a 5850 and experienced same issues as you, struggled with certain games and drops in frames on higher settings.

My upgrade path currently, upgrade GPU to the best I can, which bang for buck was the 7950, I'm not switching to an i5 because the socket will be obsolete 2013, at which point I'll buy an overclocked haswell i5 bundle from overclockers in the summer.

My advise would be to get a 7850 or 7950, then if you really feel you still need a further upgrade, go for i5 haswell next year as well.
 
For your setup I agree a GPU upgrade is definitely the right path.

I recently upgraded my 1090T to an 8350, and saw a notable improvement, probably due to my 1090T bottlenecking my CF 7950's.
 
I had a 1090t then an i5 2500k (both with a GTX 470) and in my fave game (Trackmania 2) all I gained was 10 FPS at the same settings, the biggest difference was when I upgraded the GPU :)

So I'd say change the GPU and add more ram, then maybe OC the CPU a bit more and you'll be cooking by gas ;)
 
Well thats fairly unanimous. GPU it is then! Got a bit of money coming so should be possible soon. What will a used 6850 fetch nowadays? And whats hot in gfx for 200-300? The 7870 looks very tempting with 2 free games.

Much the same reason i went for a 6850 over a 6870! :D

Only thing im thinking, is what is the gigabyte 7950 like dimensionally? As my 6850 is already quite snug in my xigmatek asgard case.

That, I cannot tell you!

I'm an Nvidia gamer, would be better off looking at the sub-manufacturers site for dimensions. I'm sure someone else can help.
 
For those interested, the 7950 is a full 1.1" longer than an Asus 6850.

I'll be able to get it into an asgard case, but will have to shift my primary HD up a level to accomodate the arse of it. :D
 
If you want small then the nvidia 660 look fairly small :)

They are around £160-£200

7950 is the best performance and value for money if you got room :)

Sorry chaps, not interested in Nvidia after three of their cards failed on me. A 6600gt and two 6800gt's. Also, for the price, those cards don't seem to compare to the 7950 at all.
