Is it worth reporting this?

In acme's chair.
So I was sitting up in a car park on top of a hill with a friend in the car, taking pictures of the town lit up at night, (it was around 1:30AM) when a few 18 - 25 yr olds roll up in a Jeep, then evidently frustrated that they didn't have the car-park to themselves floored it and slid it around in the gravel a bit before pulling up, they then and proceeded to start smoking "something" and blaring out music. They eventually got bored and left the car park (in the same way they entered it). When we left they were parked high up on the grass bank, and they pulled out and followed us once we had gone past.

At this point I wasn't really bothered, but then they proceeded to speed past me at about 60 (?) in a 30, on the wrong side of the road, on the wrong side of chevrons and traffic islands, round a slight bend. I dropped it down a couple of gears and sped up a tad so I could get his plate when he had to brake for the roundabout, I did so and got my friend to put it in her phone. Anyway, they slowed a bit and then ended up going the same way as us so we were behind them up until a roundabout where they took a different exit.

About 5 minutes later after we have gone through a couple of junctions and made a couple of turns, they come speeding up behind us again, far too close, so I dabbed the brakes and turned into a turning without indicating, they missed it and went past. I then parked the car behind a lorry and switched off, then a couple of minutes later saw them pull into the road, and take the wrong turning off of it having not seen us.

A few minutes later I continued my journey and was un-hindered.

Considering reporting them to the police, but having not done so before, is it even worth it? I mean, they only have my word. I have no proof of what they did? And I don't really have any kind of description of the passengers or the driver?

I'm pretty sure they didn't mean to harass or intimidate us, and because of how empty the roads were apart from us I didn't really feel "in danger" at any point, they were just under the influence of a certain popular illegal high (I assume) and were driving dangerously. God knows what they're doing now.

Thoughts?

I have the make, model and colour of their car, the registration, and I know the vehicle had 3 occupants, 2 male 1 female.

I know if I'm going to do it I should have done it straight away so that the Police are on the case, but I just got in, I'm in bed as I type this, my eyes are heavy and I have to be up for work in 6 hours... The last thing I want to do is have to speak coherently on the phone.

If you report them they will find you and hurt you. You are not hurt now so just leave it unless they bother you again.

report them.

even if its only so you dont feel any guilt when you see that they crashed and killed some innocent in the paper. doesnt take 2 minutes to phone the non emergency number. atleast that way the police have a log of it incase someone else in your situation phones up another day

Think this is the best thing to do, might help with future investigations if it happens again.

This sounds like an American high school movie.

Jocks in their jeep going to make out point on the hill and then causing some trouble.

Hang on you chased them then brake tested them now you want to report them?

LoL, OcUK Motors at its finest.

I think brake testing is the least worst thing here, They were pratting around in a car park, then doing 60 in a 30 on the wrong side of the road, I think this is something worth reporting, at least the police (though will probably won't do anything and just forget all about it) will have info on the car driving in a bad manner.

lol where did break testing come from? :p OP said he dabbed the brakes and turned... sounds like normal turning to me (minus the lack of indication ofc ;) ... but then that would have given the game away).

up to you really, no harm in calling the non-emergency number. doubt anything would be done, maybe a cop might drive past the car park on his way back from rounds late at night xD

so OP..... in an empty car park, on top of a hill, in the earlier hours of the morning, with a female........ taking "pictures of the town at night"

sure you were ;):rolleyes::o:D:p:eek:

like wise ignore it, if you felt intimidated you should have pulled over not brake checked them, some scum will not care about the after math and just go to town on you.

just had a thought..... if you were taking pics of the town at night.... how come you didn't get any pics of the car/perps? :p surely you'd have quite the zoom lens/abilities so taking a pic of the numberplate from distance and probably even seeing their mugs through the window should have been easy?? :p

Probably because he wasn't taking pictures. Well not of the town anyway ;)

Now for serious answer. It's not safe to to take pictures while driving. Probably also hard to get camera focus from a moving car, even if the passenger took the pic.

Lol guys, first problem with the "why didn't you take pictures of them" question is because I'm sure they wouldn't really have appreciated it. Would they? Secondly, when they rolled up we had already put the gear back in the car and were chatting, listening to some music (quietly, unlike them...) and eating some food we bought from the shop before going up there. e; oh, and helpfully the camera gear was in the boot.

We go up there quite frequently to take pics, as well as going to other places. I like night time photography. If you really want I'll post a few of the pictures. :p

Also I didn't hoon up behind them to take down the plates, I drive a 12 year old 3 cylinder polo, trust me, nothing exciting happens when you drop it down a couple of gears and floor it. :p I just wanted to get the plates back in view when they had to slow for the roundabout so we could note it down. I doubt they even noticed.

And I didn't "brake check", I didnt particularly want them to follow us all the way back to my friends house, and it was getting fairly annoying by this point, so I steered sharply into the industrial estate (its a wide turning with no real obstructions and is one way, dont worry.) the dab of brakes was just so that I didn't skid uncontrollably into the opposite curb, and it was all rather sudden so that they had no time to react and follow. I then went down the end of the road into a dead end and parked behind a lorry, they came looking and didnt see us.

I'll keep my camera and the 300MM in the front of the car in future, for use by the passenger of course. Or maybe I could dash mount it and put a remote release switch on the gearstick. :D

If you report them they will find you and hurt you. You are not hurt now so just leave it unless they bother you again.

Well at least we know who the driver was now. Learn to drive. Idiot.
