At the moment I have the following set up.

Asus Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition Intel X79

Intel i7-4820K @4.5ghz

Corsair 4x4GB CMD16GX3M4A2133C9 PLAT

What I want to know is it worth me buying a skylake set up or should I just keep what ive got.

Thanks

I would stick with what you have. I think a Skylake upgrade would bring minimal benefits. If you still have the urge to upgrade look at the 5820K and X99. At least that has 6 cores.

Unless you have a compelling need for more cores/threads and new motherboard features such as an m.2 slot I would save money and hold put till at least broadwell-e on x99 or even skylake-e whenever that surfaces. I came to x99 from a hex core x58 rig and although I use the new chipset somewhat (m.2 Sammy drive is my boot drive now) there's not much benefit in my day to day usage. There main area of benefit for me is rendering speed
