hello, Is it worth updating the cpu on my budget gaming pc, i currently have intel i5 7500 socket 1151, on a h110m pro-vh with updated bios, 16 gb dual dd4 1066 ram with the geforce gtx970, it can currently run rdr2 in medium setting and gta5 in 1080, but the pc was basically built on budget to play rdr2. Any suggestion for updating the cpu, i have read i can use the i7 7700 to play rdr2 in 1080, all suggestions appreciated :) Thanks Stewart

This is not an exact comparison, but it is included in the benchmarks here (@ 9:27) and the i3-8100 is somewhat equivalent to your i5-7500, so the answer is: it does help, but from this video with different graphics cards, I'm not sure if your CPU, or the GPU, would be the greater bottleneck (@ 8:50):

What I can say for sure, is that GTA V runs fine with your CPU.

I have an identical motherboard to you but it's the z170. I am aware that the h110m can at most support i5/i7 7th generation chips, which in that case the best cpu compatible would be the i7 7700k. You can find on sale at pre owned condition for roughly 100 pounds. The main difference is that the i7 supports multithreading and has higher boost clock, which will certainly be a noticeable difference, but personally I wouldnt consider it if you intend to focus more on story game titles, however with 4 cores and 4 threads your system will likely struggle with the upcoming titles that are live such as warzone 2 and such. I personally have an i5 6600k 4core 4thread and I'm desperate to change it haha because it can't keep up with my rtx 2060 and input delay is awful. I hope this helps. :)
