Is it worth upgrading from 3870?

Hi all,

Fancy a new graphics card with dx11 support, main uses is video editing, photoshop and gaming once a week. At the moment my system is built around an Intel Q6700 with 8gb ram, Ati 3870 1GB, win7 and two monitors running 1280x1024 each.

So dont want to spend the earth maybe a £100 and seen in a mag this month good reviews for XFX HD6850 and XFX HD5770 £120 and £85. Either of these worth a go and are they worth upgrading from ATI HD3870.

Cheers

Yes, a massive upgrade that's beyond comparison really. :)

I'd consider either a gtx460 or an AMD 6850. If the current prices of those are a little too much (the 6850 is higher than it was), then a 7750 might be worth considering, especially bearing in mind the resolution you game at.

For £100 the best card you can get is the ASUS 6850 DirectCU, and it would be a massive upgrade over your 3870. Worth every penny.

I went from a 4870 to a 5850 and it was a nice bump. The 6850 is pretty similar to the 5850. However if you only game at 1280x1024 your 4870 should still be going strong?

I game at 1920*1080 with a 1GB asus 4850 (albeit overclocked with a thermalright v2 / ram heasinks) No real problems to be honest.

I'm thinking about upgrading purely for eyefinity, but not because the card doesn't do well (within reason!)
