Is It Worth Upgrading From a 34-Inch 3440x1440 60Hz Monitor For Non-Competitive Games?

Hi everyone,

I've been using an AOC u3477pqu for some time and was wondering if it's worth upgrading to something with a higher refresh rate? Looking ideally for an IPS panel with good colours. Please note, I don't play a lot of online games, so it's mostly single player. Given my old monitor is 60Hz without FreeSync, I presume it would be worth spending the money?

Thanks for that, Really tempted by the iiyama!

been gaming on a hp zr30w for some time now, it was serving me fine apart from the odd game where i got motion sickness. recently got my self a LG 27GL850b . i was very skeptical of the all the fanfare about gysynch and high refresh etcs and compared to the 30" its size tiny but the high refresh rate is very noticeable and much easier on the eyes specially when you play fps games

Hi, hope I can jump in on this for some advice, particularly as @NikTheSHNIK posted in here:

I've got a GTX1070Turbo, and when I got my PC, I intended to buy a better monitor than my current 16:9 1080p 24" Asus, to take advantage of it - due to house reorganisation, that didn't happen as planned.

So here I am some 2 years later, and frankly, I'm a bit lost. I've gone from a 24" 16:9 to temporarily using a 37" 1080p TV and back again, and I have no idea what I should now look at as a 'bigger' monitor.

My current thinking is to get a 32" 16:9 3840*2160 curved monitor, because, frankly, I don't understand what I would gain from moving to a 21:9 or wider monitor (currently most of the games I play such as Civ VI, can't take advantage 4K, let alone 'ultrawide') - so would someone who has experience of using a widescreen kindly explain - what other than 'more width' - in exchange for 'less height' do I gain? is for most purposes QuadHD as good as, or better than 4K - due to the extra width?

I don't tend to 'replace' my monitors unless they die (hence my almost 9 year old ASUS), so I'd like to make sure I at least try to get it 'right' the first time.

Is it worth sacrificing height for width, and how much should I be looking to spend to take advantage of my graphics card?

I'm currently about 0.75 metre to 1 metre from monitor, and I have approximately 82cm width in which to place it (although I could gain some if I relocate my PC).

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Mark

I personally think the answer is yes. Larger monitors do your eyes in at lower refresh rates. The higher refresh rate is very well worth spending money on.
