Pro XE motherboard?

Im thinking about getting a DDR3 SLI motherboard, a few reasons being:

1) to achieve my current overclock requires a fair bit of voltage (1.48v or something)

2) max ram speed is slower then i would like, and is only ddr2 (a ddr3 board can go up to 1890mhz on some!)

3) its crossfire only, i want to stick another gtx 260 in at somepoint

Do you think these are good enough reasons to justify a new board? this has been one of my best boards to date, stable as heck.

i just want to know what you guys think?

Cheers

Personally I would sell the Q6600 and buy a Q9***. They are 10% faster clock for clock, run substantially cooler, and overclocks well on low volts, not to mention that it means you dont have to upgrade your motherboard or ram.....

I think you are referring to a board like this. If so, my recommendation is not to upgrade to it. This is mainly because of the high cost, but also the nvidia chipsets pale in comparison to the intel ones. Admittedly, there are no SLI boards with intel s775 chipsets, but i'm sure you would agree that this upgrade is not worth the massive cost for a new board + RAM. Also, 3.76Ghz is a darn nice overclock, i'm not sure how much more you can push that chip, regardless of mobo or cooler.

If I were you, take one of these courses of action:

1) Upgrade to a board like this. If you want multi GPU then sell the GTX260 and get a couple of these.

2) Leave it as is and start saving for a Phenom II or i5/i7 rig. The i7 may be costly, but going for this mobo (supports SLI), this CPU and this RAM it is a comparable price to the 790i +RAM upgrade considered earlier.

I'm not sure what the problem is tbh. The board does support SLI now (bios update may be required) and it seems to run rather well. Review here, here and here. It may be little, but it sure has the goods.

its X58 which is good too.

my doubts to the msi boards could be mythical i dont know, i just remember been told that a msi board if they short or damage, can take other hardware like ram, gfx etc. i dont know if this is true, it might only apply to older msi boards, not sure.

With P55 on the way, I wouldn't buy an Intel motherboard at the moment unless I didn't have a PC, and even then I'd buy a very cheap one.

how good will the P55 be over the X58? and will they support SLI?

Who knows if it will be better or not, it will certainly be significantly cheaper.

And yes, it will support SLi if the board manufacturer fits it.
