I am planning a a new build rig and though I don't play a lot of very intense FPS or anything, now and then I like to play a whole range of games, at the best resolution and frame rate.

I an not going to use 2 cards.
At the moment I have a Gigabyte made GTX480 SE the 1.5GB version with the 3 fans on it.

Is it worth upgrading the card for "the latest thing" or should I hold on for another year or so?

Are there that many games that would really benefit from a better spec card?

I'd hold off

my Gigabyte 480 SOC is still going strong - the minimum I would upgrade to would be a 670 or more likely a 680 - and with current game line-up etc I don't think its currently worth it

I'm only at 1900 res, but running nearly every game at max graphics with AA - and worse case I'm getting 40frames per second

I too would like lower power consumption and lower temps (most games I'm in the low 80s - high 80s depending on clock settings) - but thats not enough justification to upgrade

it certainly gets hot- but its been getting hot for 2 years to no avail
