Is it worth upgrading my GPU?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am very much out of the loop at the moment and a bit clueless so bare with me, I would genuinely appreciate any help or suggestions you can offer.

I picked up my current PC from Overclockers just over 2 and a half years ago now. Rough specs are below I can't find the exact details as the system is no longer on the site.

AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor ~3.6GHz
8GB RAM
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P Motherboard
650w OCZ PSU
500GB hard drive
GeForce GTX 570

How much extra life would just a graphics card upgrade give to this rig and if it is worth upgrading what is my best option before I reach a bottleneck?

I am really not confident enough to fiddle about with the motherboard and processor, would I be better picking up a new system at this point?

The only thing I'd do to that to extend the life is a clean windows install on an SSD.

That makes the machine less annoying... but it won't be amazing for gaming... really until you buy a whole new system.

Depends what ur playing I guess... if it's just LOL or something... probably OK... are you having any specific problems?

I would go for a new cpu and if need be, a fresh motherboard as well before I added a graphics card.

No specific problems, just looking to make my PC my main gaming platform going forward so was looking at my options.

I think based on the feedback so far I can make do with the games I am playing on this current setup now and upgrade my entire system in about 6 months.

Thank you all for your help :)

That would likely be the best option if you want to play new games at 1080p at least. Though you should consider 2560x1440 at the minimum at this point.

Just to confirm echo what has already been said.

SSD.
Motherboard.
CPU.

Then

GPU.

SSD = A 256 or 250 gb SSD.
Motherboard = Either an AMD board with wider CPU selection, as the Fx 8300 CPU is your limit or go Intel.
CPU = AMD or Intel i5 depending on what motherboard route you take.

GPU wise GTX 970 or greater NVIDIA. AMD R9 290 or 290X.

Depending on your 12v rail your PSU should be good for all upto the R9 290. You may need a new PSU for the next gen AMD cards and the R9 290X.
