Hi,
I've recently bought (and built) a new PC. However, my brother has an older PC and wants to play online with me, but his PC is simply not up to scratch. Would it be worth upgrading or should I just tell him to get a new PC?
The specs are:
AMD FX 4100
8Gb of dual channel 1600MHz RAM
Gigabyte AMD 9/8/7 series? Not really sure
Ati Radeon HD 5400
Don't know the PSU

I may just salvage the use ful parts and build a new PC
Any recommendations?

Yes it is worth it possibly.

• If you can find out the model number of the motherboard (it will be printed on it possibly around the expansion slots) then a CPU maybe possible with a BIOS update.

• The PSU will have a label on it so again find out what make and model it is etc.

• Do you know what case all this is in? if you upgrade the GFX card then you need to check it will physically fit inside.

• But the first thing I would do is swap the GFX card assuming your PSU is good enough for a better card.

And of course is there a budget available to make changes.

What he said^

You might me able to get a r9 280 and fx 8320 in there. Depending on the motherboard and psu

If you're tight on budget then you might be able to get a decent upgrade changing the CPU, GPU, and PSU. If you've got a decent amount to spend then a complete rebuild would be better for the long term.
