Im thinking of buying AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+ (Socket 939)
And this Card to go with it
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT Extreme ..
Want some on advice on is it worth the upgrade i only have about £350 to spare...maybe push to £400..
As i say dont wanna spend this on a wasted upgrade ..
Any advice please.... :)

No point spending that much on a 4800 S939 tbh.

For that money, you can get:

- Gigabyte GA_945PL_S3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
- OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
- Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Total : £469.89

You can go for the Connect3D's PRO card whih saves you around £10. And might want to wait for the E4300 which saves you another £10. So the price range will be between £440-470. But this is a much better setup.

I know there are some boards that supports DDR/DDR2 rams. But I'm not sure which ones. If you can get that motherboard, that is the best. It will effectively save you £150 on the ram.

But if you can stretch to the one I proposed, it would be much better. You can overclock that beast to 2.6-2.8!

Corsair XMS....was decent stuff cost if i remember about £179 for a matched pair of 512...i later added another gig of the same stuff..
PC is about 2 years old i would estimate maybe more...
Cheers for info everyone..
I was toying with the idea of going down the Pentium Duo route but then its going to spiral into new mobo new Ram etc...
May save up and do that if as you say it may be a waste of money trying to squeeze some more out of my current Pc.....
