from the ocz 2gig revision 2 xtc 6400 memory I have to 8500 type memory. I am using a DS3 P mobo anf am wondering whether the difference will be negligeable?

Depends if your current PC6400 is holding back your FSB overclock.

If it's not then there's absolutely no need for PC8500.

So it's still possible to get a very reasonable overclock say from one of the new incoming penryns and the ram I am using ? :)

You should do.

Tho it is far too early to be speculating about the Penryns just yet.

Well the PC6400 OCZ should stick with a Q6600 to ~4.1ghz (~460x9).

The Penryns will be 333mhz based and the equivalent CPU will have a lower multiplier and will need higher FSB to get the same clock, but your current memory should stick with the 2.66ghz Penryn to ~3.6ghz.

But again it's speculation until we see how well the current motherboards clock the Penryns.
