Hey guys, I was wondering if it was worth updating my current system :
AMD FX4100 OC'd to 4GHz
8GB DDR3
XFX 7850 2Gb

To

Intel i7-3770
8GB TAM, (same RAM)
XFX 7970

I use the system for gaming primarily.
Thanks guts

You'd need to change your motherboard too.

If you were only gaming the 3570k would be fine.

In your situation I would upgrade to a 8350 and a 7950, if the budget went that far..

I know I have to replace the mobo too. My local PC shop has a bundle deal going on. I guess my budget will be no more than £700 at a push. £600 is preferable. I thought I'd go for an i7 for a bit of future proof. Would 7850 crossfire be as good as a single 7950?

The 3770k will be no more future proofing then the 3570k. It has hyperthreading but games won't rely on that..

Zakk's i5 spec above is spot on. The Z77x is great for Xfire but if you not going down that route the Z77 D3H is perfect.

Go for an i5, unless you're doing heavy encoding, the i7 offers very little over the i5 in terms of price/performance

Personallyi would crossfire the 7850s and then add an 8350 pile driver, crossfired 8350s should be better than a single 7950 and an 8350 would save you having to get a new motherboard aswell

Crossfired 8350's??? :)

That depends on whether he has a motherboard that supports xfire x8/x8.. If its only x4 its not worth it, much better off with a 7950..

If you do replace your motherboard you may aswell go for an i5.

I will have to get a new motherboard as my current one e doesn't support crossfire, it only has one pci-e slot. I might go for the i5 then and get a second 7850. Would that work out alright? It seems cheaper too. If someone could spec that for me that'd be much appreciated. At work on my phone and I'm lazy hehe.

He would need a motherboard that supports crossfire,

1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £187.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99

I've picked the OEM version of the Intel i5 3570K, if your current CPU cooler is compatible with LGA1155 then you can use it

The Z77 D3H does support Xfire:

Memory 4x DDR3 1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules
* Due to Windows 32-bit operating system limitation, when more than 4 GB of physical memory is installed, the actual memory size displayed will be less than 4 GB.
Onboard Graphics 1x D-Sub, 1x DVI-D (1920x1200 max res), 1x HDMI (1920x1200 max res)
