Is it worth upgrading?

Hi all.

I currently have a MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio but with the current prices of a 3090 TI i'm tempted to upgrade

I currently have the following
4K monitor Gigabyte Aorus M32U, 144Hz,
Corsair RM850x White PSU
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X CPU

Is it worth the upgrade the GPU, would I see a big enough difference? Im also cautious that the 4xx series could be out late this year?

No. At least IMO. You're almost at the top end as it is and you'd have to think for the price of the 3090ti, come the next release of the 4000 series there will be something around the same price that is a good 20-30% faster at least. Save your money my good friend.

Yeah, seeing as the very high-end cards will likely be the first in line to be released, I'd hang on for now.

I should think the 3080 handles most titles at 4K rather well for the time being.

what a categorical NO :D

I will take everyone's advice and wait
If you could get a 3090 Ti for cheap, then yes. But that supposes that you can sell your 3080 for a reasonable price.

Given the specs of your rig and your budget, I'd wait.

If I was building a second rig and had to have a 3090 Ti, then sure but you'll have your hands burnt if you bought soon and suddenly the 4080 is faster than the 3090 ti.

You can be wealthy and still have purchase regrets.

Even if you were to buy a 3090 Ti now, i think as soon as you see the 40 series on the shelf you would be wanting to change again

I run anything at 4K on my 2080super even, mind you i only game at 60fps, and games that dont quite give me 60fps i just use dlss, a 3080 would deffo be ok in most situations at 60fps.

What if it was a new PC instead? So no existing hardware, Price seems very close between 3080ti/3090. Ignoring the 3090ti, power draw is ridiculous for the minor gains.

To have what you have, knowing what's coming out, thinking that price is a bargain and asking here.... i'd have to say yes you should upgrade or you'll regret it. We both know you'll replace it in a few months, but i think you need that constant upgrade cycle.

Personally, no I wouldn't, i'd wait as your replacement will be here in less than 6 months, but i dont think you're the sort to care as much about money as me :D

Go mad, lad!

I'd wait for the next generation to release. Whatever's going to be the performance counterpart of the 3090ti is probably going to be cheaper than what the 3090ti costs now, so you can either save money or get a faster GPU for your money. Unless you have so much money that you're going to upgrade to 4080/4090 when that comes out anyway.
