is itunes like steam?

i'm fixing someone's laptop, about to format it, they've got music they've bought from itunes on it, if i format it, can they just redownload the music for free from itunes? -like steam games..

or do i need to copy the folder from the pc and then back to it

You need to backup the files. iTunes is a once only download unfortunately.

You will need to backup the folder from the PC. Don't think you can redownload music that you've brought from iTunes.

Yeah, you can do.

Take the iTunes folder including the the .xml files and the music library and it will backup the database and all the music. Put it all back in the same place and iTunes will pick everything back up where it was.

Depends how big the library is. Mine's around 45Gb!
