to cut a long story short like the title says is it ? (i need to clean the old thermal paste off)

i would have posted elsewhere but not sure where and the idea was given to me a few mins and google hindered no results :(

I've always used kitchen roll to wipe the paste off. After I've applied the removing solution of course, I also use Kitchen Roll to clean it up after the purifier has done it's job too. Not had a problem yet.

Absolutely not, and to save you a question, neither is toilet roll, or most other forms of paper tissue.

Having said all that, the problems are two-fold. Firstly with the tissue being abrasive, so don't get rough, and secondly with the tissue leaving bits of itself behind, so don't let that happen.

Thxs guys for the quick replies :) (gotta love this forum :D!!)

and kk i probably won't risk it - might try and old spectacle cleaning cloth sure there's one around somewhere if not looks like i'll go have to buy something :)

Find someone who has recently purchased a mobile phone / Nintendo DS / glasses / laptop / etc. They are quite often sent with a little piece of lint free cloth to wipe the screen with.

My G1 came with one, they've been pretty popular, know anyone who has one?

It's not lint free as you've already been told but equally as has been said that isn't particularly important for most people, I've cleaned quite a few CPUs using kitchen roll or toilet tissue and it hasn't made any difference to their operation. You're more likely to damage the parts by holding them incorrectly or dropping them I'd guess than you are by using a non-lint free cloth.

Exactly.

I found out what lint is the other day, I'd never bothered to investigate previously.

I acquired a pack of disposable screen cleaning lint-free cloths - used one of them whenever I needed to clean a CPU.
