im currently running windows server 2003 but thinking of changing to a linux os. I have never used linux before, so easy setup is a must. I dont use most of the features of server, but need: remote desktop of some sort, file share, automatic / scripted backup, standby / wake on lan etc. is linux for me and what version would you suggest? Sorry for the messy post - on phone. Thanks.

I've seen and used ubuntu briefly, though never installed it, and it's supposed to be straightforward, so I'll go with ubuntu server as a trial :)

I'm rebuilding my filerserver around a jetway MATX dual core atom board, so thought i'd take the opportunity to try something different. I've always been put off by installing things through command prompts (or equivalent term) etc which looks archaic. I've used DOS etc, but struggle to get around unless I know the commands (ipconfig, ping, formatting, bios flashing etc) or I have step by step instructions.

Anyway, I'll give it a go and report back :)
