Is modular worth it?

I was told by a friend that the only difference was that on modular you could use the wires you needed instead of having extra ones lying unused in the case.

Are there any other differences?

Do you think modular is worth the extra?

Indeed The only real difference is the fact you use the cables you want, handy if you have a small case.

I only went non modular due to the fact I was going to use virtually all the cables, running multiple gpu's and hard drives.

Ye I went modular on my new build helps keep it all tidy your more than likely going to use nearly all the wires anyway so doesn't save much space tbh

I bought a Corsair modular PSU and it's not made any difference to the amount of cables as I have most of them plugged in anyway!

i upgrade to a modular as i have a small PC case (Lian li v351b). Being able to only have the cables i need, make it much easier for me to keep my PC tidy. :)

It's easy enough to hide unwanted cables with a bit of thought put in to your cable management. That said it depends what case your using..

I like modular cables for the simple fact that if one goes wrong, you don't need to open the PSU to start to do a DIY job on it. I also like the fact that corsair fully modular PSU's have really nicely braided cables, meaning as a modder you don't really need to do anything with them to hide the colours.

I doubt anyone actually uses every single connector on the PSU.

Some of these PSUs are coming with 10x Sata. Who really has ten hard drives in their cases? Sometimes they also have a 4 pin and an 8 pin (Antec truepower) Not on the same cable. So you always have one lying spare. No one uses both obviously.

Do you have two or more GPU's? If no... there's more cables.

I much prefer modular. I don't have one in my main rig and the cable management is a nightmare. It's tidy, but it would be a lot better with a modular.
