My BF4 gameplay is stuttering slightly I haven't upgraded my pc in a while is more than 8GB ram needed now for games? Rest is a GTX 680 and a I5 2500K

For gaming 8gb is fine. Maybe get faster ram though n better. 4gb is "ok" but 8gb is bnetter. My sisters comp I am adding 2x2gb patraiot black edt reeady ram with her ocz 2x2gb - but my rig 2x 8gb 2400 (Oc) :D

8GB is fine for now.
I have 16GB because I occasionally do other stuff, and for peace of mind (and the IMC on my chip seems allergic to higher frequency stuff :()

If you have a lot of stuff running + BF4 then more than 8GB might be an advantage - I've seen ~6.2GB peak total used by the OS when runing BF4 with pretty much nothing else running other than firefox (for battlelog) and an OS thats fairly much a clean install with some crud stripped out. For the most part though unless your doing some mad multiboxing very few games will push requirements to a level that needs more than 8GB.

Actually, i remember something about having more RAM (16GB+) can extend the life of an SSD as it decreases the amount of writing to the drive, although i'm sure SSD drives these days are built to last a while (hopefully).

While they say 8 gig is enougth now i myself am tempted to go 16 just for the extra safty it gives.
Remember games are made too sell so they wont often push what the majority of users have and not many have beyond 8 gig

To be hones having 16 and not using is more of a hindrance than anything as it limits overclocking ( that Is if you are using 4 sticks)
