So lately i been playing a lot of D3, been noticing the game was running really sluggishly, as i game with headphones on i dont ever notice the sound of the gpu.

Normally when its running sluggish i close down anything in the background and sometimes reboot the PC and it runs nicely again.

Tonight it was running slow so i rebooted, still bad, uninstalled the drivers 13.12 and decided to try the new 14.4's, still bad, i dont hear the card winding up, which as i say i dont normally hear anyhow, but i figure i should hear something with no headset on, even in d3, normally i hear the card spin up a bit as d3 hardly taxes it.

Anyhow ive pulled the card out, swapped the power connectors around, put the card in, still the same, i downloaded heaven and run it on the ultra settings for the benchmark, its getting 5fps and like a slideshow and im not hearing the fan kick in at all.

If i load up MSI afterburner i can manually set the fan to 100 and it will spin up and blast away, the card runs at stock, ive never run it more than stock for gaming at all as theres never been a need to.

Seems to be when running anything that should use the gpu in performance mode, it just doesnt seem to boost the card at all, i even flicked the bios switch to see if that would help, still the same.

Reckon it could be dead?

There will be something else at play. If the card was faulty, you would see artifacting or it would be crashing/blue screening.

Run DDU and clear out all the AMD drivers. If it still does it, you need to make sure you are not running a bitcoin virus or some other form of malware. Check each process (google them if you don't know what each one is) and run Malwarebytes.

Hope that helps :)

Yeah i uninstalled 13.12 with DDU Greg in safemode etc and got it to clean all directories etc, i will give the Malwarebytes thing a whirl to make sure nothing bads running, although i do have ESET NOD32 installed and thats usually pretty wicked at detecting and removing anything moody.

Deffo something foul is at play and it isn't your card that is faulty. Seen it before on both AMD and nVidia and it was a bitcoin virus or a normal virus. You have to look for the bitcoin virus though, as it doesn't get picked up by malware/virus checkers sadly.

Hmm nothing on Malwarebytes, nothing on Eset online scanner, nothing using my cpu power, nothing in task manager, nothing odd in startup via Msconfig, cant see any process running that i dont recognise.

PC has been behaving normally other than the GPU just doesnt seem to want to go into performance mode:(

Well if all else fails and you have a good internet speed....Re-install Windows. A pain in the bum but does make sure all crap is gone.

Other than say Heaven, anything else i can use to test the card? Heaven starts off around 9fps on the benchmark settings then jerks and flys up to around 50fps and kinda goes up and down a lot but i do hear the fans start to kick in as the card temps rise.

Wondering if i should try a diff driver revision.
