Is my 4870x2 dead?

It idles at almost 90C in Windows even with powerplay/2d clocks, my pc sometimes crashes when I'm fiddling in the BIOS or during windows bootup. Seemingly 2d clocks are the only thing keeping it working at all, it needs 90% fan speed just to keep it from melting. I just replaced it with an old 7800GT because I couldn't take the noise anymore. During the last few weeks my entire system has become very unstable; corrupt files everywhere, network connections dying a lot (can't even bring up my router's webmin), I hold out hope that something else is to blame but it seems like the card is just busted.

The worst part is, it's a Powercolor and 1 year and 1 month old... what can I do?

Blow out the cooler and fans, try reseating the cooler with new thermal compound.

They do tend to clog with dust if you don't have dust filters on your case.

You have nothing to lose as 90C at idle is not normal.

i think powercolor cards carry 24 months warranty, so if it is the card you should hopefully be covered

i think the new 5**0 series do but looks like its not the same with the 4870 series(the 4890 have 1 year Here.)

I checked the website I bought it from (just found my invoice), it does seem to be 24 months. That's a relief.

yep should be 24, my 4870 came with 24, should also say this in the warranty papers / booklet
