Right on the train using my phone to write this. I was wondering if its worth getting a 900w one with the following hardware ive got: its a q6600 go at 3600 with 1.47v core ,an ati 4870 with mem oced to 1100 4x 1gb geil 6400 ull 2x120mm fans 4 sata drives 1ide 1dvd write drive. Any feedback appreciated. Also thought id had its a hiper and says 580 w true power on the box. Running a 680i board too. Sorry about lay out of post. Opera mini lol

If it's a Hiper there is no way i would trust it with that rig. Despite what the box says, they cannot output their claimed 580w and have a weak 12v rail of only 360w.

i agree 900w is overkill. I used to run a QX9650, 2dvd burners, 2 sata hdds, couple of fans, and 2 4870's CF with a 750w PSU (corsair TX)

A decent 520w corsair or thermaltake toughpower would be fine.
If you are going to buy something make sure its not another Hiper! Ive had them and they've been fine, but a lot of people have had problems, think its all the old ones though?

Anything from Thermaltake/Tagan/Enermax/Corsair/Seasonic with more than 500w will do fine. I guess there are some more good ones like zalman but I havnt really used any of these so cant give my word :).

Get rid off the hyper... fast...

Whoa, a lot of hiper-haters here :(,

I baught a 580 hiper a few months ago with my new rig, Its been working perfectly, nice and quiet too.

A lot of us have had our fingers burnt with old hipers. When they went bang and they did in most cases., they usually took out other components. The new ones are meant to be perfectly fine. But most of us won't trust them ever again, regardless of there current status.

My hiper 580w modular psu lasted over 2 years then just fizzled out and stopped working with a horrible smell, didnt take anything else out with it so i was more than happy with the psu

Hiper replaced it for free (great customer service) and i sold it on the bay and bought a hx520

My hiper 580 is still doing well over the past few weeks. I didn’t notice about the bad reviews until after a brought the PSU but when I checked on the box, its a version 2. So I think the older versions of the hiper 580 were causing all those bangs, fizzles and funny smells(I hope).

mine was replaced by hiper but i mynew one says mk v3 on it so i take it thats a version 3 one, ive never had any probs and reducing my clock seems to make things work ok atm!

Il keep an eye on the members market or this week only deals and c what comes up:-)i see a 900w on MM just went for £55 but i missed it:-(

get the 900w.. everyone is needing more power now just look at what the new gpu's take to run stable and safe all the corsair 520w fanboys psu's will wimper off in the bin where they belong soon enough with there crap cables

Erm, fanboys? What is wrong with the HX520 for the average gaming rig?

You have no idea what you're on about, SLI GTX 280's only pull slightly over 500w at the wall (400w from PSU assuming 80% efficiency). So long as a PSU has enough amperage on the 12v rails all is good, I hope one day people will learn that they don't need to waste money on overpowered PSU's.

Thanks for saying that.
