Where exactly do you think your bottlenecked? What games are too slow for you at that resolution? keep your money, or get a 8800GT cheaply, its the same performance as a 4850.
Theres no real reason to upgrade for a few fps. I'm skipping a generation again because my 8800GT SLi is still the best.

I play FPS games like crysis, cod4 etc etc, the games play fine other than crysis lol, i was just wondering wether the system as a whole whould perform better by putting a better card in, such as 4850 or 9800 gtx.

You should be fine at that resolution. All games should be running max except the dreaded crysis which was probably ironically named "crysis" halfway through the encoding of the game.
