Moved my pc about a bit the other day and since then I'm having issues with my 9800pro. After playing any game for a bit, I get artifacting which slowly gets worse (happens quicker in the more demanding games). Obviously the card is overheating - so I remounted the heatsink (Arctic Cooling VGA 3 - old school), twice. It's still giving me issues. Is it possible I've bent the card or something - as the socket doesn't appear to offer much support for the card (inherent design fault). My brothers card died, but it could be fixed by wiggling the card in the socket and offering more support to it - is this something that happens to a lot of cards?

I'm a bit miffed as it's a great card and I can't really upgrade it anymore.

Same thing happened to my 9800 Pro a while back, I sent mine back and got a replacement, if you can RMA it, but I am guessing you got the card a while back or bought it 2nd hand?

Hi

The card should be very tight in the slot, if it is not maybe the contacts are worn due to being an old card, also depends how many times its been removed. Anyone else?

does your 9800pro have the 128mb ddr1 ram or the 256mb ddr2 ram? the ddr2 ram cards used to fail as much as the 7900 series.

hmm odd, i got a 128meg samsung and its still running fine.

could be like you said the agp slot. have you tried it in a different pc? does sound like a heat issue though. i did put ramsinks on my card and a better gpu cooler on it. probably thats why its been running fine. also never overclocked it since its in a mild gaming rig.

It was fine until I moved the pc back (was redecorating). I guess it may be beyond repair, but will try with my spare gf2 later. Assuming it's just the card - replace with an x850 agp or x1600 ? If anyone has any links to how to apply arctic silver 5 the best way possible - post them up, may just have another go at reapplying the heatsink, and I'll check the card with a spirit level.
