Pretty much a motor newb and haven't got someone to ask so I'll ask you knowledgeable chaps here!
Got a small '00 Clio 1.2 and around a month ago I noticed that occasionally during gear shifts the engine would 'over rev' That is to say as I changed gear and pressed the accelerator pedal instead of incresing in speed the rev engine would rapidly over rev. Taking my foot off the pedal and depressing again would normally rectify the issue.
Now however this issue is becoming more pronounced. During the course of a 30 min trip it usually happens a few times and especially when going up hills and if there's more than one person in the car. I'm finding I'm struggling to make it in fact as I seem to lose momentum rapidly and can't find a gear which doesn't cause the engine to over rev?
I had a mate look at it today and he was able to replicate the problem and said it felt like the clutch. I've booked the car in for a replacement as the garage siad that any clutch problems with Clios mean a replacement not a repair. I was originally quoted £450 which would practically ruin me! But have since found a place that quoted £250.. which would only partially ruin me...
So after all that's been explained could someone tell me if a) I'm right in that the clutch is indeed the culprit? Spending £250 and finding out later its still doing it would be very very bad.. And if b) that £250 is a good price?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
