Is my computer under performing?

Hi, I really think my computer isn't performing as well as it can which is rather disappointing. I have been playing Assassins Creed lately and I can't even get constant fps with 2 x AA, Lower than max environment and medium reflections. Crysis as well I didn't expect to max it but with lowering most settings was expecting maybe constant fps. Finally I done the Heaven 2.5 Benchmark thread today and I got 1085 which someone said was 300 lower than them with same GPU and CPU at stock, Anyone know what could be causing this or am I just expecting to much?
 
Was expecting to maybe not have my fps drop to 40 in a second which makes it a bit jerky on Assassins Creed, Can max Dirt 2 out though and runs 60 constant which looks pretty nice.

It runs 60 constant because you have Vsync on.

40 fps is not bad, 40 fps is good, 40 fps enough.
 
Yeah not complaining about it sitting at 60 or 40 but its when it takes sudden drops makes it about laggy.


Playing at 1920x1080 as well.
 
Switch vsyc off.
Constant fps in Crysis is likely a struggle on a 3.3ghz single gpu setup, unless you have turned it right down.
 
Not always. It depends on your monitor.

Switch it off. (V.Sync, not the monitor, for those who cannot read with understanding :rolleyes: )

I think I have not come across any game in which FPS stayed constant. Sometimes due to sudden movements in the game FPS can dip momentarily to below 20 frames and this is to be expected.

I think this could be due to the technology as it is including the efficiency of programming and game design.

Realistically expect the above scenario in any game regardless of your PC system. You will always get frames dip at some points in the game:cool:
 
Made you giggle why ? Instead of posting useless comments to get a higher post count, elaborate why, because switching V.Sync off actually helped the OP.

No because vsync has a barely negligible impact on actual potential fps, especially with double and triple buffering, all it does is asks your gpu to wait for a horizontal sync signal before issuing a pageflip. If you're potentially rendering obscene amounts of frames (which he isn't as seen by his framerate with vsync off) into your buffers beforehand you might run into percieved input latency, but not a framerate hit.


[edit] shearing is where a pageflip is issued during your screen redrawing and you get portions of two frames drawn at different parts of the screen

His FPS was locked at 60 and therefore it dropped to low 40's etc. He disabled it it and it jumped back up, which is exactly what he wanted, v.sync being his problem locking the frames.

Anecdotal, therefore irrelevent, feel free to provide me with a good reason for vsync being responsible for a framerate drop like that and i'll give you a better reason of why it's not.

I'm no expert and someone could explain it better, but from my understanding on V-sync dropping the fps it drops in 10s, i.e if your getting 57 fps it will cap it at 50, drop to 49 fps and it will cap at 40 which is why you would get such big lose of fps with v-sync on. I could be wrong but I clearly remember similar topic that explained exactly how v-sync worked.
