Is my cpu dead?

Or maybe more accurately have I killed my cpu?

Last night I decided to swap out the PSU in my system for a brand new 850w seasonic prime titanium. I took the old psu out and all of the cables and transplanted the new one. Now my case is very cramped so getting to the cpu power header is a bit of an issue. It's right between the case edge and my huge cpu cooler, there's room to get your hand down there and push the cpu power cable in with your fingertips but it's a tight squeeze.

Once everything was in place I booted up the system and everything seemed fine. Did a run of prime 95 and noticed that temps were very high, hitting around 90 degrees. I guess I put a bit more pressure on the cpu cooler then i thought but not a problem. Everything was working so all that's needed is to reseat the cooler with new TIM and everything should be good. It was late so off I went to bed planning to reseat the cooler in the morning.

First thing this morning, power on the system and it doesn't post. After a few attempts the system posts and I get an overclock failed warning. Ok no big deal, load optomized defaults so everything is back to stock and reboot. No post. No matter what I do it just will not post at all now. My motherboard is an asus hero vi and it's giving me a 00 error code which doesn't look good.

I've since dismantles the pc completely and remounted the cooler with new Tim but I still can't get it to post. I think the cpu is dead? It's a delided 4770k which has been running at 4.4GHz for 4 years.

Thoughts?

OK I've just dismantled the entire PC and reassembled outside of the case using my old PSU and its working fine. Thought i'd damaged something but it looks like either something was shorting in the case or the new PSU is dud. Gonna do more testing to figure it out. Its not CPU related at least, was looking like an expensive day :p

Good to hear :)

Silly question, but did you forget the spacers between the motherboard and the case? Didn't go well last time I did that :D But maybe the cpu just needed a jiggle to align the pins correctly ^^

I didn't remove any of the spacers when I took the mobo out so they were all still in place from previously. No idea what the problem was tbh. I've reassembled everything back in the case with the new PSU and its working nicely now. Re-applyed my overclock and temps are just shy of 80 degrees in Prime so its all looking good! :D
