Is my CPU/MOBO on the way out?

Need some advice, please.

My computer is coming up to 7 years old, and I think the CPU might be failing.

When the motherboard boots it gets stuck on some codes(B6) indefinitely and I have to restart it to get it to boot (sometimes 20-30 times.)
Now the file explorer is slow and clicks can take a while to work or just refuse to work.

I don't think the mobo is dying as it works when I get into bios. I think the CPU is on the way out.
It's like me in the morning very sluggish.
Does this sound like a CPU failure? I am guessing the only way to fix it would be to buy a new CPU or most likely Upgrade everything.

CPU i7-5820k
Mobo Asus x99 Pro
Ram Corsair

thanks for any insight

Could try pulling out the cpu, reseating and remounting with fresh paste etc, if that fails systematically go round with memory and graphics.

Honestly though, everything 'b6' seems to point to cmos, maybe you need a new battery rather than just resetting it.

I'll try this again with CPU, and I'll pop another battery in as this one might be a bad one as well. thanks
Then it’s going to be a yes somethings on it’s way out
Kind of afraid of that, seems everything has gone up 300% since my last build haha

Battery swap a good idea as the voltage may have dropped below 3V. If it keeps losing settings it may be memory training excessively.

Something that always caused issue on the two systems I built for my brother and myself were the CPU sleep/C states in the BIOS. Try disabling them should be about 3 options and try that. Then re-enable each one to see if you get a Windows hanging at boot.

Only last month I had to reload the saved profile (glad I did that way back) in the BIOS on my bros system as it had reset for some reason. Otherwise his i7 5820K + 980 Ti still plays modern games well at 1080p.

It has but it really depends on how you upgrade, you don't need to go the 'latest and greatest' cpu/motherboard/ram... you've also got to remember while prices have got out of hand, the performance up tick from your current cpu would also be quite significant.

But don't worry about that just yet, try the other options first.

I was hoping to do the same until prices settled. lol

That's true, though I can't believe a top-of-the-line machine now is so much. I can deal with graphics/CPU, but when did features like error displays and a CMOS(Bios Flash) button become £600+ boards lol. I'd be lost without these trying to diagnose the problem.
Yup as above try replacing the battery.

My bet is it'll be your motherboard though, when CPUs start to go you normally get blue screening or crashes, not what you are describing.
I think you are right.

So I have just replaced the replacement battery, and 4 of my Dimm slots have no detected Ram (A1,A2, B1, B2.) so I have gone from 8 to 4. I tried resetting them and testing each side. I even increased the volts to 1.3v in increments. No luck.
I couldn't test all the Ram properly as it was still hanging up, so I just put the ones that worked back in and pressed MemOK. The weird thing is in Windows it says available 16gb but committed 32gb and 4 of 8 slots used.
This makes me feel it's the MOBO. I feel horrible as I thought maybe I could find a cheap CPU, but I've checked the MOBO is more expensive than 7 years ago lmao.
Hopefully, I can get a little more time out of it before she dies totally, but thank you all. Every comment really helped me and the brick wall got a rest as well. :D
