Last christmas i brought 2 new setups (as in my sig) as both mine and missus pc are the same.

A while later i purchased 2 x 160Gb 10Krpm 16mb cache sata drives so i could go RAID0 on the JMICRON channel.

My partners pc has an aged 120GB 7200rpm 8MB cache EIDE hard disk and still hers beats mine on everything from bootup to game loading.

Both pc's are identical clock speed, BIOS settings and bios revision, memory timings, cpu's coolers, gfx cards, drivers everything except for the hard disks.

I've tried running my 160's on the intel chipset sata controller and still its slow, ive tried disabling the jmicron sata controller still its slow, ive tried other makes of sata2 drives the only thing that makes a difference is if i put an IDE drive in.. then it flies

Ive scandiskd both my 160's for bad sectors and they came up clean, interestingly on a fresh install of XP with the correct drivers installed and service packs if i tried to run a HDTACH test my pc would BSOD

Is it possible that the sata controllers are duff on my board.??
I've also tried my 160's in her pc in raid0 and again it flies no problems what soever :(

Anyone have any thoughts please, im not sure if its still under warranty but i may look to RMA it.

Well its strange that they work better in the other pc than in yours. im not sure if the boards at fault or not.

If your wifes pc only uses an ide drive could you swap motherboards? Could be a quick and easy fix
