Hi all,

The past couple of months I have been tracking my daily electricity usage and found that I am averaging 12kwh per day.

Does this see, to high? My 46" LCD tv is on most of the day, my llano a8 media pc is on all day, my laptop is plugged in all day, I have approx half of my household lights using energy savers and the other half not, dishwasher not used regularly and neither is tumble dryer, washing machine is used 2 - 3 times a week on a 40 degree wash and we charge 2 smartphones and an iPad every night and that's about it.

Still averaging 12kwh per day seems pretty high doesn't it?

It's not that much. Going through 13-14kWh a day here with a family of 5. The power meter thing that we have is always showing around 400-500W.
Now imagine some users with their sli/tri sli/crossfire systems, I'd imagine just their idling would near 400W. They are probably going through a lot.

I think switching off the media pc, tv and taking out the laptop would help. Or at least put them on standby.

How many people live in your house? If it's only 2 then yes, that is high. You should be aiming for 10kwh or less.

Get in the habit of turning things off when they're not needed, especially the TV and media PC.

Just looked at my last bill and it was 735KWHr for the last 30 days - so 24.5KWHr per day average, so no, your usage doesn't seem excessive.

Power meter currently shows 461watts being used - that with my PC on, halogen desk lamp, landing light, free standing lamp, fishtank running and whatever else normally runs/is on standby (fridge/freezer etc). Everyone else is currently tucked up in bed asleep.

i use between 5 and 7kwh per day..i have a 3 story house, LED tv, 10w bulbs throughout. and a fridge that only used 140w i think..

things like surround sound and playstations use loads, obviously kettles and a electric oven, laptops arent too bad..

before i bought the tv, i was on average around 10kwh a day

fridges only use their power to cool it down when the temperatures go past their limits. rest of the time they use very little. So if you leave it open for long then it'll get cooling and using power.

atm im using 230watt, with things on standby, fridge on, tv on, a light, randomly the alarm seems to use a lot even tho it just sits there.

yeah our fridge is pretty good really, at 140watt while in use, ive looked for better but couldnt find much

They are likely using the type you clip onto one of the cables entering your fusebox, it reads the power being drawn and then transmits that to a display wirelessly. A lot of energy suppliers send them out free. You can also buy them cost about £20-50 depending on the model.
