Hey guys,

Thinking of saving a few ££ via electric and downgrading my PSU.

Currently have a EVGA G2 650W PSU and was thinking in the region of a 500-550W instead..

My specs :

i5 4670K
DeepCool AIO CPU Cooler
Gigabyte Z97P-D3
16 DDR3 RAM
GTX 1060 6GB
G2 650W
120GB SSD

Cheers guys, RTJ

A pc will only use the power it needs so just because you have a 650w psu doesn't mean that it will be using 650w all the time. I actually doubt if your pc would pull more than 200-220w at the wall fully loaded which would mean you are running at 88-89% efficiency. Keep what you have because you will lose more money from selling the one you have and replacing it with a lower power unit than you will ever save in electricity.

pastymuncher,

was thinking of doing a ITX build in a : Cooler Master Elite 110 Case.

Can you recommend a PSU size and power for this case pleae..

It's going to be extremely tight in that case. Tweaktown did this review (2nd picture down) on it and used the Silverstone Strider Gold 750w which is 150mm long and it is very tight. Your G2 is 165mm long plus the connectors for the cables. Coolermaster states a maximum of 180mm long for a non-modular psu and 142mm long for a modular psu.

The G2 is about to be replaced by the G3 which is based on Superflowers also soon to be released Leadex Gold II platform. These are very compact units with even the 1000w version only being 150mm long. See here. Jonnyguru has already reviewed the 1000w version and given it 9.8/10. These look to be excellent units.

I don't rate Be-Quiet psu's. They are for the most part overpriced and some models have weak 12v rails. The one you are looking at is a FSP built unit with dual 12v rails of 17A and 16A allowing a maximum of 360w total to be drawn from them. That 80mm fan can be noisey which tends to be a problem on a lot of the SFF units. I can't find a review for the 400w but there is one for the 300w version here. It is a big step down in quality from your G2 though.

The Superflower Golden Green HX 450w is only 145mm long. The downside is that it's not modular so you have to find somewhere to tuck the spare cables away.

hey guys,

managed to get my 650 G2 into the CM 110 case, without much hassle really, all I done was install the intake fan on the side where the front panel pops off, and used a stock heatsink and all is well with cables, so will stick with it atm, if its working i dont see a need to change? what do you think?

If it works then stick with it. As a side note, these are a cheap and cheerful cooler than cools better and is much quieter than the stock Intel fan. We have one in the wifes little cube case and hardly ever hear it despite the case being no more than a couple of feet away from a radiator.
