Was working fine when I set-up my new rig. The sound card was purcahsed back in June and installed within my new set-up yesterday, I installed Vista 64 bit with the latest drivers from creative and played bioshock on 7.1 no problems at all.

Booted my machine up today, went through the bios fine when it started to load windows the machine crashed there was also a loud static noise that continued until I reset my computer.

It then managed to boot into windows, but certain programmes could not load and I got lots of error messages. I took the sound card out and everything worked fine with the onboard 7.1 audio.

I unistalled the drivers, and plugged the soundcard back in and it did the same thing over and over, can't boot into windows with it plugged into the mobo?

Is it busted guys?, I can get a new if it is, but wanted to check that is it not a common fault / problem that i can fix?

Sound Card = Creative X-Fi Gamer
mobo = Ibit Pro

Any suggestions welcome!

Just to let you know, I did read this, aint got answer, I have no idea WTF Creative were doing releasing so many cards, they do not normally.

Even the mods who mod cards say the Gamer has crap DAC's and CAP's and to get Extreme Audio over it (original card at a launch of X-FI).

I had a similar problem that may or may not have been related to the x-fi extreme gamer card. Tried to run COD2 on vista, and the game crashed and the sound was replaced with just static. The static noise continued all the way till I shut down windows. I restarted the computer and there was no sound at all. I tried to test the sound in the control panel, but just got static. I switched off and took out x-fi card. Computer would not post.

To cut a long story short, I ended up getting the mobo and ram and x-fi card replaced (tested by ocuk). The x-fi card never worked great in my system under vista 64, and I never quite got the mic to work properly. Tbh I am not going to put the new card in until the creative drivers are updated.

Sorry this doesnt help, but I read your post and thought it sounds a tad familiar to what happened to me.
