He has an i3 dual core cpu and a 6870 1gb, he claims he can run BF3 with everything on ultra and AA set to x2, is he lying or can it be done?

He's playing at 1920x1080 and says he's getting "35/40 fps"

I have a 6870 and can run on all high settings with 2xAA, get around 45-70fps with AA on, and 55-80 with aa off. Havent tried ultra.

Resolution is 1680x1050.

As for your friend, I doubt it mate.

BF3 aint dual-core friendly last time I checked.

If anything, if your system cant handle it on ultra, his friends CERTAINLY cant.

Fraps was reporting average of around 30-40 with all ultra settings and 2xmsaa @ 1920x1200. So hes correct but tbh it felt a little choppy. Pretty impressive though for a £130 gpu. I reckon without the 2xaa it would have been fine.

With your OC'd i7 920, though? He uses an i3 540. Surely this would make more than a 10fps difference at least?

Yea i imagine it would. I am running a slightly higher resolution but i doubt that would make a big difference.

It's not the number of cores that matter...it's the speed that count.

i3 2100 is as fast, if not faster than Core2Quad and Athlon II X4, Phenom II X4 in BF3.

Bf3 seems to be less cpu dependant than bfbc2 was.

He didnt state which i3 it was, if it was the second gen I would have been happy with that.
