Is my GFX Spec Good Enough for 4K?

My Intel® HD Graphics 4600 has a max resolution of 4096x2160 at 30Hz.

I suspect the answer is maybe "no", but is that frequency too low to really run a 4K monitor? This is just a work screen, no films/games, and I use text based programs, not graphical.

Essentially I'm looking for more desktop space and am weighing up whether a 28" 4K screen or a 21:9 QH would be best. Primarily I want to see multiple windows at the same time.

Thanks

Personally, 4k at 28" results in a dpi that's too high / text too small for comfortable desktop use. Scaling is an option but then you loose the desktop space the 4k resolution give you as a result. I wouldnt look at anything smaller than 32" for your primary uses. Secondly 30hz is awful on the desktop. The cursor judders across the desktop etc. Again i wouldnt personally but your mileage may vary; you can run your current monitor at 30hz to see if this will be a problem for you.

for me the 34" 3440x1440 UW makes a lot more sense than a smaller 4k screen and it's what i have at work where i spend all day in SQL server management studio / visual studio / office apps etc. There have been times where i've wanted more desktop space but i think that'll always be the case :p i've considered moving to 4k but it'll have to be a 37"+ screen for me.

Thanks James
You've confirmed a few thoughts really. I was thinking I wouldn't be able to see the fonts etc unless I up-scaled, then whats the point. Also my arms aren't long enough, or pockets deep enough for a 32"+ screen.
Are there any "no-brainer" recommendations at the moment for the 34" 3440x1440?

The LG flat UW are pretty good value. Freesync. Also there is a pretty good 4K screen, I think OC have it, £600 or something. That's the size you'd want for 4K

28" 4K isn't a good choice, I'd be looking at bigger monitor.
