Hello!

Hoping for some advice!

I was playing Overwatch on Saturday when suddenly my PC just turned off. I tried turning it back on but nothing happened.

After disconnecting the power and leaving it 5 minutes, I plugged it back in and switched it on... I could hear sizzling and smoke started coming out of the top of the case, and it smelt really bad!

I initially thought it was the PSU, but did the paperclip test today and found that the fan was spinning, so I connected the PSU back to everything but took the GPU out, and now it turns on fine with onboard graphics.

I've inspected the GPU and other than smelling burnt (like the smell when the pc was smoking) I've noticed a small dark/brown mark on part of the chip on the GPU, and also a small black mark on the motherboard beneath where the GPU was sat. I can go purchase a new graphics card but I'm worried about wasting my money if it's not that.

Would appreciate any thoughts!

Yes it sounds like it's certainly your graphics card. It's burnt, and the entire rest of the PC works ok if tested without the card.

You could stress test the PC if you're really unsure but this seems pretty black and white.
 
Have you tried removing the GPU and using the CPUs internal GPU to test the rest of the computer?
