Is my GPU DOA?

Yesterday I took delivery of my Gigabyte R9 270X and I seem to get brief intermittent purple screen flashes when applications load. Some very quick googling suggests it may mean the card is on the way out - is that correct? Is there any quick way of proving it one way or another?

Did you try reinstalling/changing drivers? Trying different applications? Just to be sure??

Just curious, is your Mobo a Gigabyte also?

It is a Gigabyte mobo, yeah. Does that meant something then?

I've updated to the latest Catalyst drivers and it still happens, just for a second or so. It does one of two things, either a full purple screen flash or purple and black hash pattern.

Update your bios, see if that helps.

Updating the BIOS was the first thing I did when (so I don't therefore know if the problem existed on the originally-shipped BIOS).
